I made this work in 1980 as an investigation into both gender roles and the industrial military complex. This artwork is made from a toy gun, spray painted, and embellished with flowers and ribbons. It measures 5.5 X 19.5 X 4 inches.
This modified toy investigates gender roles and stereotypes. It brings to the foreground the idea of the glamour of war and the reality of its devastation. I created this work in 1979-1980. It took on new meaning during the 45th president's administration – the place of transgender people in the armed forces. I made it from a toy figurine, paint, lace, ribbon, fabric, glitter, and sand. It measures 5.5 X 6 X 3.75 inches.
